"Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts."
Thoughts, Beliefs and Values
It is well documented that our minds are bombarded with huge amounts of information which can influence our thoughts. We have little, or probably to be more accurate, no control of what comes into our minds.
Example of a thought:
You may think that you don’t like someone, even though you’ve only just met them. However, this thought may change once you get to know them better. You may then eventually come to the conclusion, that you think that they are fantastic.
Example of a belief:
The above thought has now turned into a belief. This may or may not be true, however this is what you now believe (your belief)
So therefore a thought could be just that, a thought. However, this could possibly then turn into a belief (not necessarily true) as per above example. And here lies the problem, a thought can be generated and then influenced into beliefs by many things, Parents, teachers, media, politicians, friends etc.
Some of these beliefs may have a positive impact on our lives, or of course maybe a negative impact.
And once you believe something to be true (your belief) even though it may not be, you can probably guess how this can greatly influence many things in your life.
Influencing our values
Our beliefs can also have an influence on our values. Those beliefs which are very important to us, can then become values.
For example, you may hold as a value the desire to be honest all the time. This may be one of your values, but it could again be argued this is not a true fact, it's just your belief and has now become a value.
Therefore if you were not honest all of the time, this would be at odds with one of your values. In other words, you would not be living your life how you really want to!
On the Mind Management Workshop we will cover these very important topics in detail, as they are of paramount importance. They can have a huge influence on our lives.
How we can help
Our aims at the end of this topic:
- Participants will have a thorough understanding of thoughts, beliefs and values.
- Participants will have a thorough understanding of how to analyse and evaluate thoughts.
- Participants will understand the importance of how to process all negative thoughts
As with all the topics covered on the workshop, there’ll be plenty of opportunity for questions.
